The Best Travel Backpack is the Osprey Meridian 22
About a year ago I did some serious research to find the best travel backpack. I read hundreds of reviews and eventually narrowed it down to two different packs, the Osprey Meridian 22 and the Eagle Creek Switchback 22.
I even went into retail stores to try the bags out in person before I made my decision. I eventually decided on the Osprey and have been using it ever since.
Both travel packs sport about the same features. There are 1 or two minor differences that one may prefer over the other.
Both bags have a detachable daypack, a huge bonus when traveling light. Both are 22” sizes, the largest allowed carryon size. One of the best features of these cases is that you have the option to use them with a handle and wheels like a traditional piece of luggage or strap them on and carry them as a backpack. They are both made of water resistant material and have a lifetime warranty.
The differentiating feature for me was the backpack straps. On the Eagle Creek Switchback 22 there is only one pair of straps. You must remove them from the daypack and put them on the main bag and vice versa. While this is a great space saving feature, I personally prefer to have separate straps so I can just grab and go. The Osprey Meridian 22 in my opinion is not as stylish as the Switchback but the straps were the deciding factor for me.
As of now I believe that I made the right decision going with the Osprey. I have used it for about a year, taken it on 3 international trips and several domestic ones. I have been nothing but satisfied with every aspect of this piece of luggage.
Im sure that if I had chosen the Eagle Creek, I would also have been happy, but I didn’t buy it so I can’t say for sure. I would suggest doing your own research before making such a big purchase but in my opinion the Osprey Meridian 22 is the best travel backpack available.
